ACE Inhibitors

  • drug name ends in -pril
  • block conversion of Angiotensin I to Angiotensin II
  • causes vasodilation; aldosterone secretion (cells reabsorb sodium and water, excrete potassium)
  • side effects include hypotension, tachycardia, hyperkalemia, cough (#1 reason patients are non-compliant with these meds)
